Part workshop, part seminar, wholly speculative, this unit interrogates what it means, why it matters and what it might look like to critically engage the notion of using the modern browser as both a design and publishing tool. It will require you to question the nature of information, of authorship, ownership, audiences, accessibility and dispersion. It considers the relationship between print and digital layout processes and authoring environments and the implications of the Internet as an aggregating machine, publishing surface and distribution medium. Fundamentally, it encourages the idea of designers as engaged citizens, as researchers, editors and provocateurs.
